Role Description
The Organisation
The Justice Support Centre, which has been serving South West Sydney since 1986, is a community organisation that provides free services to the community. They support people in South West Sydney with legal issues and women and children affected by domestic and family violence in South West Sydney, City of Sydney, Inner West and Waverley. The centre reached 16,608 people during FY 2024 (a 57% increase from FY 2023), employs 80+ people, and has an annual revenue of over $11.5 million.
The Role
The Support Justice Centre is calling for expressions of interest from people who share its vision of a future with equal access to justice for women and children to serve on the Management Committee (“Board”) of its Incorporated Association.
The Board and staff work together to ensure our values are relevant and serve as our guide in decision-making:
- Respect – we value each person
- Transparency – we are open and authentic
- Accountability – we empower our people
- Teamwork – we work better together
Meetings are generally held in person after 5.30pm, 4-5 times per year, plus an AGM, at our Bankstown office or another central location. The Board member will also be asked to join a Finance Subcommittee, which meets quarterly, and to work with the COO and CFO on reporting and the audit.
Selection Criteria
The Justice Support Centre is seeking a volunteer Board member with extensive skills and experience in financial management, including a solid understanding of financial management principles, budgeting, accounting, and cash flow management. The successful applicant will have formal qualifications in accounting or finance and practical experience.
In addition, your expression of interest would be highly regarded if you also have skills or experience in any of these areas:
- Information Technology and Innovation
- Fundraising
- Community legal services
- Domestic and family violence services
All board members must have a strong commitment to social justice.
Applicants with board experience, AICD board training, or similar will also be highly regarded.
