The Role

Each is seeking a Non-Executive Board Director to help shape the future of the organisation and the communities they serve. The Board guides governance and strategy, ensuring they remain true to their mission and values while creating real, lasting impact.

As a Non-Executive Board Director, you will work as an active member of the Board to:

  • Set strategic direction to ensure services remain person-centred, accessible, connected, effective, and safe
  • Provide oversight of organisational performance and financial sustainability
  • Champion inclusive, culturally safe, and psychologically safe environments for staff, clients, and communities
  • Participate in Board and Committee meetings, contributing expertise to robust and constructive discussions
  • Support continuous improvement, innovation, and best practice in governance, quality, and risk
  • Represent Each in the community, including events and service visits
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to Board evaluation and succession planning


Tenure: 12-month direct Board appointment (then eligible for election for a 3-year term)
Location: Anywhere in Australia
Remuneration: Board Director fee + superannuation
Time Commitment: 8-10 hours monthly, including bi-monthly in-person Board meetings plus an annual retreat


Selection Criteria

Each seeks a Board Director who brings:

  • Clinical mental health expertise — supporting informed and effective governance
  • Integrity and accountability — ethical, independent decision-making
  • Financial and legal literacy — ability to interpret reports and understand governance frameworks
  • Commitment to inclusion — proven ability to foster equitable, safe, and inclusive culture
  • Curiosity, collaboration, and courage — willingness to question, challenge, and contribute collectively
  • Emotional intelligence — empathy, strong communication, and respectful engagement
  • Commercial judgement and purpose-driven focus — business acumen and alignment with Each’s mission


Preferred experience & skills:

  • Previous Board or governance experience in not-for-profit or related sectors
  • Experience in governance, quality, and risk
  • Skills in legal, finance, public relations, stakeholder engagement, or business development


Mandatory requirements:

  • Current and active membership of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) or equivalent, and willingness to complete relevant governance training.
  • Ability to satisfy all relevant background checks (Criminal History, Working with Children, NDIS Worker Screening, Aged Care Banning Orders, Responsible Persons criteria).
