Lorraine Stephenson

Non-Executive Director

I am an Independent Non-Executive Company Director and Strategic Advisor. My career has been grounded in complex industrial businesses, with over 30 years of experience in the energy, resources and breakthrough technology sectors. The value that I offer a Board is built on my skill in setting a strategic direction and designing a long-term business plan under a range of scenarios. My skills enable me to focus both on opportunities, as well as assess and mitigate associated risks. I have extensive experience in capital-intensive industries focussed on infrastructure assets and am an expert in risk assessment of infrastructure assets under a range of climate change impact scenarios. My diverse networks across large corporates, investors, industry associations, governments, unions, research institutions and NGOs provide access to a breadth of market intelligence and have been very useful in learning to effectively manage stakeholder expectations. My intellectual curiosity and ability to “join the dots together” to identify new opportunities and emerging risks are some of my key attributes. I have a passion to innovate and convert ideas & knowledge into commercial value. I have worked on a range of innovative products and services, particularly in the energy sector including renewable energy projects and market instruments to support investment in sustainable products. I bring a deep understanding of ESG policies and impacts on portfolio value to investment decision-making, based on an understanding of current and likely future regulatory regimes in Australia and overseas. My expertise in international climate change policy and strategy is key to understanding the implications for development and commercialisation of sustainable products and services and to assessing changing consumer sentiments. I have attended international climate change events since 2000 and have built a strong international network as a result. I also have been a strategic advisor to a range of multinational companies and can therefore bring national and international perspectives to my boards. My board experience covers government owned corporations, NFP, government and industry organisations. I also have a range of NED Committee roles. My senior executive experience with ASX 100 companies and as a Partner at EY means that I am well placed to add value, particularly in relation to strategic and operational risk issues, to my boards. I have a strong commitment to safety and workplace health issues and am involved in championing a range of diversity measures. I have an entrepreneurial nature with a pragmatic style underpinned by strong quantitative skills. I have excellent communication skills and am a strong performer in collegiate board environments. I have experience in Audit & Financial Risk; Operational Risk; People; Intellectual Property; and Standards Committees. I am a quick learner and considered a diligent director. I work constructively with management to ensure that the board focus is on the key issues of today as well as for the longer term. I believe that good governance is an outcome of effective engagement between the board and management and is underpinned by leadership at the top. My goal is to expand my board activities with roles on listed company and government boards.
