I am a Board Adviser, Director & Founder, and a Risk, Security & Crisis Awareness Professional with board level experience and particular expertise in the Government, Armed Forces and Consultancy sectors. At board level what I do is mitigate risk. I do that by leveraging my knowledge in high level security risk management and operations, executive protection, crisis management, contingency planning, counterterrorism, security audits, intelligence analysis, training and coaching. Board level highlights include serving as a Board Advisor for Koba Gold & Tin, Sumatra & Borneo Indonesia. In an executive capacity, I am currently the Director & Founder of Mark Ashby Consulting. I have previously advised clients & operated as a team leader in the highly dangerous private security sector in Iraq for 11 years on “tier 1” projects. During my time in the Middle East I was attached to the US Department of Defence “Green Berets” the US Department of State and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on high threat protection, critical incident awareness and prevention through the unique tools that I have developed: I spent four years ensuring the safety and security of Australian Diplomats and Politicians as a close protection team leader & adviser at the Australian Embassy in Baghdad, during my years in the Middle East I carried out 1600 successful missions over 41 rotations. I was recently a Senior Risk Consultant & Advisor at GMRisk Group, where I provided corporate risk consultancy, crisis awareness and risk management. Earlier, I built a military career having served as a member of Sydney’s Elite Parachute Unit 3RAR, with operational deployments to East Timor. I am a proud Indigenous Australian (Guringai - Saltwater People) & I hold a Master’s Degree in Counter Terrorism.
