Louise Johnson

I am an experienced Chair, Board, Government Committee Member and Chief Executive Officer with over twenty years of board level experience across the government and not for profit sectors with experience in the health and assisted reproductive treatment industries. At board level I drive governance improvements, by engaging with organisational boards to contribute to regulatory oversight, policy development and strategic direction or innovation. Board level highlights include: Member of the Embryo Research Licensing Committee with the National Health and Medical Research Council; Member of the Victorian Board of the Medical Board of Australia as well as the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia; and Chair and board member of Women’s Health Victoria. In an executive capacity I was recently employed as the CEO of Victorian Assisted Reproductive Treatment (VARTA). As VARTA CEO, I led oversight of the IVF industry in Victoria, collaborating with key stakeholders including the Victorian Health Minister, State and Commonwealth Governments, university institutes, industry representative and accreditation bodies to support quality health care and service provision, policy development, and research related to community education or service provision. Previously I was the Executive Director of OT Australia Victoria, where I increased member revenue and developed strategic business partnerships across the industry. With broad qualifications, I have a Bachelor of Science and a Masters of Regulatory Studies, am a graduate of the AICD’s Company Directors course and have postgraduate qualifications in education and management. I am a Member of the AICD, and in 2019, I was one of 25 women awarded by Women’s Health Victoria as a Champion for Women in recognition of my board and executive work. Board and Executive Success includes the following: ● A Chair, Board and Committee Member and Chief Executive Officer with over 20 years of board level experience across the government and not for profit sectors with particular experience in the health and assisted reproductive treatment industries; ● At VARTA, oversaw the regulation of an IVF industry in Victoria with international reach, undertaking a risk-based approach to regulation to protect the public; providing advice to the Victorian Government and independent reviews, contributing to the evidence and information required for legislative change; ● At OT Australia Victoria, increased members and revenue from $200K to $800K; ● At the NH&MRC, contributing to research, policy development and regulatory oversight; ● At the Victorian Board of the Medical Board of Australia, contributing to regulatory oversight and practitioner regulation; ● At the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia, inaugural Board Member and Member of regulatory oversight committees; ● At Women’s Health Australia, oversaw CEO recruitment processes, led substantive negotiation processes with key stakeholders, and contributed strategically to board well-functioning, strategic expansion, and risk mitigation.
