Mike Davis

Mike is a strategic thinker and future-oriented professional, who collaborates well to generate innovative and practical ideas and strategies. He is a successful young entrepreneur having founded Purposeful, his award-winning ethical management consulting company. He is also a thought leader in his own right, having launched the popular Humans of Purpose podcast, hosting weekly conversations with Australian business leaders. He is a regular presenter and keynote speaker at national conferences on topics of purpose-driven business, engaging millennials and creating and communication social impact. Prior to starting his company, Mike spent a number of years working as a Senior Advisor in the Victorian Government, at the Department for Health and Humans Services and the Victorian Public Sector Commission. It was here that Mike learned how to consult broadly and collaborate effectively to generate public policy addressing a range of social and economic issues. During this time Mike provided strategic consulting services to a range of small to medium sized not for profits. Mike also utilised his legal background and governance expertise to provide specialist advice to medical colleges, government, business and research centres on privacy and governance following the changes to the national privacy law in 2014. Mike realised that many organisations do not have a clearly defined strategy that aligns to the organisations values, capabilities and purpose. Many also lacked a clear model and roadmap to economic, social and environmental value creation. This was the impetus for Mike to launch Purposeful, leaving Government to help not for profits and businesses to develop strategy and clearly articulate stakeholder value proposition. Mike now leads strategic workshops and works with senior leadership groups to create robust and future-oriented business models that create sustained triple bottom line value. Purposeful has since gone on to win multiple international awards in the past year including B Labs ‘Best for the World 2017’ Award in multiple categories and recently a top 5 Finalist Award in the ‘Anthill Cool Company Australia 2017’ Award as a ‘Savvy Service Provider’. In addition to his role as Managing Director of Purposeful, Mike is a national Board Director at SIMNA Ltd- Australia’s peak social impact measurement network. He is also inaugural Chair of the Foundation Member’s Committee. Mike founded this Committee and became its inaugural Chair after championing member value creation as a vital strategy to business growth for SIMNA Ltd. Mike is a lifelong learner and holds a Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Law, Masters of Law (Human Rights) and most recently graduated from the Australian Company Directors Course, achieving GAICD post-nominals after passing all relevant examinations. Mike is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Hawthorn Football Club, Melbourne Cricket Club, Social Impact Measurement Network and the Future Business Council. He is an avid reader, podcast listener and enjoys solving complex organisational problems using frameworks, strategic approaches and mindsets.
