Karen Howard has over 16 years’ experience as an Independent Non-Executive Director, with 6 of those years as Board Chair predominantly serving on Not-for-Profit boards of member-based organisations. Solid, sound board and governance experience obtained from actively participating on boards, as well as leading boards methodically through difficult situations and achieving positive results have contributed to Karen’s professional repertoire. As a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors with a Diploma achieved from successfully completing “Mastering the Boardroom” Karen has a long term commitment to her own personal and professional development. She has developed extensive expertise in positively contributing to, as well as leading Board Committees including Marketing, Finance, Audit & Compliance, Governance, Nominations, Risk and Investment Committees. Karen personally brings a strong regional and national, as well as professional network spanning the private, public and NFP sectors, and has extensive experience in engaging with governments and managing organisation and government relations. Superior strengths in stakeholder engagement, alliance building, development of partnerships, mentoring and management are a few of the skills that have been learned over her long career as a NED. Karen has over 18 years’ experience as a successful business owner and 16 years’ prior experience in executive support roles. She is a confident and experienced presenter and public speaker with a genuine commitment to the Not-for-profit sector, and a desire to expand into other industry sectors.
