Board Direction, on behalf of Scripture Union Australia, is seeking to appoint two (2) Non-Executive Directors with experience in either: Finance, Fundraising or School Leadership to their professional and passionate Board.

Role Description

Due to recent and upcoming retirements, up to two Non-Executive Directors (one of whom may be the Chair of the Finance Committee) are sought to join the board of nine NEDs including a highly experienced Chair.

Person Specification

SU Australia seeks applications from individuals across Australia with the following experience or expertise:

  1. Governance: Ideally (but not essential) prior Non-Executive Director (NED) experience or board-level executive experience.
  2. Skills & Experience: SU Australia are seeking applications from candidates with one or more of the following skills and experience:
    1. Finance – Ideally CPA or equivalent or at least significant finance and accounting experience (This person may also be required to Chair the Finance Committee);
    2. Fundraising – SU Australia are reliant upon giving as such someone who understands and can evidence fundraising success.
    3. School leadership – Knowledge of the primary and/or secondary school education system as Principal/Deputy Principal or very senior leader.
  3. Passion: A proven passion for the work of Scripture Union and aligned with the Scripture Union aims, beliefs and working principles (available here
  4. Cultural Fit: A practising Christian, committed member of a Church.

Location & Remuneration & Timings

Board Meetings: With the exception of one in person board meeting and an in person annual strategic retreat, the board meet virtually at least once per school term (outside of working hours) and the sub-committees meet 4-5 times per year (in working hours). 

Candidate Location: The successful candidate can be located anywhere in Australia.

Remuneration: This is a voluntary/Expenses only role. Where travel is required, all related travel and accommodation costs are covered. 

Timings (as a guide)

    • Application open Friday 26th July
    • Applications close – Monday 12th August (late applications may be accepted).
    • Successful/Unsuccessful – Candidates advised mid to late August.
    • Interviews – Early September.
    • Decision made – Late of September.
    • Appointments – Confirmed at the AGM 18th November.
