About the roles
These are crucial appointments as part of a deliberate board expansion and refreshing exercise. The new appointments will complement six experienced and enthusiastic board members, including a newly appointed consumer NED (an Emergency Physician with lived experience). We are particularly interested in attracting candidates from New Zealand and those outside of Victoria with either of the following skills and experience:
- Non-Executive Director — Education & Learning Innovation: Influence the strategic direction of HEAL/AICG’s educational offerings, including curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, and the adoption of new technologies like AI and blended learning. Download the full position description.

Selection Criteria
Governance
Prior experience as a NED of an organisation of a similar scope and scale is desirable, but not essential.
We are particularly interested in your experience working with and leading not-for-profit, membership-based or complex stakeholder organisations.
A governance qualification is desirable.
Skills and Experience
Education & Learning: Demonstrated senior experience in education and/or health professional education (curriculum, pedagogy, evaluation).
Also including knowledge of contemporary education frameworks, accreditation, and regulatory expectations, as well as familiarity with digital, blended, and AI-enabled learning. Cross-cultural and international education understanding is also sought, with a clinical background or experience in clinical governance/quality & safety being desirable.
OR
Commercial and Financial Acumen: A CFO or senior finance executive with Finance, accounting, audit, investment, and/or risk expertise.
Also including evidence of strong commercial acumen and experience in assessing growth opportunities and revenue models, and a sound understanding of financial governance, risk management, and sustainability in medium-sized NFP organisations, ideally in sectors such as health, education, professional services, or ed-tech.
Additional Information
Candidate Location: HEAL is committed to diversity and welcomes applications from all backgrounds and locations. However, we prefer non-Victorian candidates (noting that we currently have predominantly Victorian representation). Preference will be given to applicants in New Zealand, South Australia, or Tasmania – though all locations will be considered.
Board Meetings: Six annually and six separate Finance & Risk Committee meetings.
Board Meeting Location: Online + at least once a year in person in Melbourne (expenses paid).
Remuneration: This is an expenses-only role. However, HEAL will (on agreement) cover the cost of gaining a governance qualification.
